I was 6 years old when I read my first novel. My mother was annoyed with me that fateful day, and she frustratedly pointed at the bookshelf and said “Find a book and read it – it will keep you occupied while I finish this job”. I remember walking up to the bookcase and skimming titles until I came to “Nancy Drew and The Quest of the Missing Map”. I don’t recall the story in it’s entirety – which has proven both a blessing and a curse for me – but I from what I do recall, there was a old man and a guest house with a map hidden in a wall…. I really don’t remember much else. The blessing here is that when I do find “The Quest of the Missing Map” again, I will be able to enjoy it with as much gusto as I did when I first read it. Children can see their favourite stories come to life on their eReaders!  Bring the library home with Scolastics’s BookFlix aiding children to learn to read and explore their world.  Not only will they be able to use cutting-edge technology to “read-along” (an option that allows younger readers to read with word-by-word highlighting for easy follow along while the ebook is read aloud), but their favourite stories are linked with video, and related nonfiction ebooks to enhance their learning experience.

With an internet connection Scholastic now has 95+ titles paired in this way with over 25 of them in Spanish.  This is a relatively new program and will be expanding.  With the ability for the text to be narrated to the children, incorporating educational games and activities there is more than enough offered to keep even the most reluctant early readers engaged!
